more about the artist
The Ukrainian nonexistheatre has specialised in staging theatrical experiences in places where theatre normally doesn’t take place. And here “theatre” means a situation for the audience to immerse themselves into. In DISSOLVERY, the party is the frame for a ritual that is about saying goodbye and starting again. At the entrance, people arriving will be asked to upload a photo from their smartphone that they’d like to say goodbye to over the course of the evening. The file will be printed and then deleted. What remains is a picture on paper, which will then become an object to be traded in encounters with other people at the party. Whatever this photo means, whichever memory, experience, event or feeling it conveys, you can let it go by exchanging it for someone else’s photo and receiving instead a moment from someone else’s life.
DISSOLVERY will take place in Dresden and Kiev at the same time. Daniil Zenkin and his nonexistheatre team will host the club performance in Ukraine and three Ukrainian artists, his friends, will organise the party in Dresden. Because of the time difference and the curfew at night in Kiev, the performance will start early at 18.00 in Dresden and ends one hour before the streets are empty in Kiev. The two locations, 1,400 km apart, will be digitally connected via a live stream. And finally, there might be something like a shared farewell ceremony.
This event takes place with the kind support of the Goethe-Institut.
